CARNOT

( 1919-1998 )

Ka was always part of Carnot from his debut at the age of 15 until his death in 1998.

Raised in a music oriented family he managed to structure Gwoka his way and give its credentials. His technique for beating out a rhythm on the ka and the way he would seat on it (lying drum) was very distinctive… making him a respected role model.

Akiyo band chose him as a mentor for he stood in the crossroads between traditional sounds and generations.

He took the tradition overseas from Vienna to Puerto Rico astride his drum.

As a drumer and singer Carnot knows how to charm the dancer’s body and soul…my use of the present tense is due to the fact that his music is still present and his style remains loud among some contemporary drumers.
